Here is Emma, our intrepid Daisy Scout, picking up her cookies for delivery. In the other photo, Emma is delivering her first few boxes to her Grammy. Emma sold 56 boxes! She just needed to sell 30 to earn a badge and after that, she really lost interest. A few neighbors bought 6 to 8 boxes and that pushed up the final tally. Emma would like to point out that no one ordered the Sugar Free Chocolate Chips "probably because they must taste really bad with no sugar!" I think I believe her. Thank goodness for Thin Mints! I should have bought more. . .

A Few Good Authors!
On Thursday, Katy was able to meet one of her favorite authors, Patrick Carman. He stopped by Barnes & Noble to meet with students and sign books. Katy was so excited, despite the long line and my grumpiness about standing in said line! He signed a book and a poster and engaged in small talk with Katy. He was a really nice guy. Katy & I were able to have a fun discussion afterwards about being a writer. I am glad I was able to look past the timing-late on a school night-and take her to the event. She donated the poster to her school library and did her best to show off her signed book to anyone who cared to see it!
On Friday, during school, Katy was able to meet another author, Kirby Larson. Ms. Larson wrote the 2007 Newberry Honor book, Hattie Big Sky. She gave a great presentation about what it took for her to become a writer. She described the process and encouraged the students to set goals, believe in themselves and never give up. Another nice adult offering kind words to interest a soon-to-be 10 year old in the art of creative writing!

More Saturday Fun!
Here are a few pictures of what we did today when we were not rocking out!
The girls and I went to see "Coraline" in 3-D, hence the way cool glasses. Loved the movie and the cool effects!
Emma and Katy thought Lucy needed some exercise so we took a trip around the very cold block. Lucy is getting up there in years, but she still looks good!
Love to you all! Hope you had a great day!
Happy Valentine's Day!
We hope that you all had a nice day with your special someone or someone's. My special someone's were up waiting for mom to return from an early morning run to Winco and the gym. Eric worked late last night just to wake up and try to head back in by 10 a.m. He was up with the girls helping prepare the kitchen for a "pancake" morning. Before we ate, we exchanged our gifts. The girls and I bought Eric a Guitar Hero game for his PS2. What fun we had! More to come on our status as an awesome guitar band! Rock On!
We also purchased an ABBA Singstar game. That was a purchase for the girls and I. Can you imagine Eric singing "Dancing Queen" with us! Not so much. . .
We gave a book to each of the girls. Katy received the latest Harry Potter book and Emma received the second Spiderwick book.
I received two CD's. One of the Plain White T's albums and the new Jason Mraz CD. I love them! Thank you Katy, Emma and Eric. XOXOXO

Special Olympics World Winter Games
Katy, Emma and I were able to spend a few hours in Downtown Boise yesterday mingling with the fans at the Special Olympics Festival. We were able to watch a few figure skating events in the Qwest Arena. What a delight! It was so nice to see so many people cheering on the athletes. Katy realized that she was not able to tell by looking at an athlete what their individual disability might be. I explained that was really the point, I guess. We all have different abilities--not all of them are obvious.
We are wearing blue and white scarves knitted and crocheted by people around the country. The original request was for about 5,000 and the World Winter Games received over 50,000! Since there were more than enough for the Games participants, many area schools received the extras. Adams Elementary was one of the lucky schools. We love our scarves!
P.S. We are posing with Morley, the mascot for the Boise Games.

PJ party!
Emma is involved with Daisy Scouts this year. Daisies are the youngest group of girls that can be involved in the Girl Scout organization. Two nights ago, her troop had a "hibernation sleepover" at the local scout house. It was a mom/daughter event with six of ten families participating. The girls, with the help of their leader, were able to plan a simple introduction to "camping" with a group. The meals were simple and the activities fun. One of the highlights was practicing "animal yoga" with Emma. It was hard work! My body is not as flexible as it used to be.
Since the focus was hibernation, the girls were encouraged to bring a stuffed animal that "hibernates." Emma brought one of her bears. She purchased a new robe and slippers for the bear, just for the occasion. I hope it had as much fun at the sleepover as we did!
Just a side note--Katy, Emma and I walked to a nearby park yesterday. While there, I noticed the mayor of Boise and his daughter playing near us. I pointed out to Emma that the Mayor was here. She then replied " the Mayor of the park?" I giggled and said, "Well, yes, actually he is! " We said hello to him a little bit later and I passed on Emma's query. He, too, got a little grin! Funny girl, that Emma!
Oh, other news on the daughter front. . . Katy tried out for the part of Juliet in the upcoming fourth-grade class play, "Romeo & Juliet". It is being presented by her class. Katy took it quite seriously and memorized a scene for the audition. She got the part and will share the duties of Juliet with three other girls in her class. She will be in two scenes, one with the nurse and one with Romeo. Katy is excited about the part and the prospect of having a scene with a "Romeo" does not completely gross her out! The performance will be several of the first few days of March, if anyone is interested in coming. I know that it is winter, but the invitation is out there for any/all of you to join us! It is just going to be staged in her classroom. Should be fun. We will tape it, and with any luck, make copies to send out!
