Still recovering from last semester . . .

I am really looking forward to summer.  Life is so busy in our house this month. We seem to be going non-stop trying to squeeze in all of the end-of-the-school-year activities!  Musical programs, band concerts, piano recitals, orthodontist appointments, summer clothes buying, 6th grade party planning . . . the list goes on!  I almost think taking 15 hours of classes was less stressful than trying to meet all of our May obligations!  On second thought, I'd much rather be driving around town going crazy with my awesome family . . .
Here are pictures from a few of Katy and Emma's recent events.

Climbing wall at the YMCA facility in Cascade.

I think this zip line was called the "Leap of Faith."  This is what Katy did on her 12th birthday!!!!

Emma and part of her 3rd grade class preparing for their Legends of the Land production.  They retold several fables and tall tales, including Johnny Appleseed, Paul Bunyan, Davy Crockett and many others.   The class also learned to sing and sign "Yankee Doodle!"  It was a cute program.  Emma was the lion in the "Lion and the Mouse" fable, part of the 3 person chorus in the retell of "The Grasshopper and the Ants" and Mrs. Twiddle (trusted advisor to the Emperor in the "Emperor's New Hair.")  I have no other pictures because I was the line prompter for the class.  I was a bad prompter, though, because when I made my script copies, I forgot to run them double-sided, leaving off every other page of the script.  Thankfully, no one really flubbed their lines!!!!  Eric was taping it for us and manning the camera.  It was too much for him.  We got video but no pictures~

Katy with a few fellow cast members, grandpa and the grandkids, in the 5th and 6th grade musical, Johnny Appleseed.
Katy played one of the grandkids who was being told the story of Johnny Appleseed by their grandfather.  (That sounds grammatically incorrect, but grammar check cleared it, so I am good . . .)  She was happy to have avoided singing solo and dancing!  Katy delivered her lines with ease and humor.  She had fabulous timing and a very expressive face.  I did sign her up for the first ever drama camp at her future high school, Boise High.  They have a great little drama club called the Washington Street Players and they have finally organized a summer camp.   It will take place the week after school ends on June 3rd. Katy loves acting and we have had a tough time trying to find non-musical opportunities around town.  She is looking forward to joining the drama club in junior high and high school!
We did not arrive early enough to snag a front row picture taking spot so I had to "stage" it for you after the recital was over . . . I did tape their individual performances, but I can not figure out how to post the videos on the blog.  Emma played Hedwig's Theme from the "Harry Potter" movies (it was a simplified version for her level) and Katy played "Send in the Clowns."
They both played flawlessly!  I was so proud of them.  Katy is learning the song Jessica's Theme/
Breaking in the Colt from "The Man From Snowy River," but it was not quite recital ready.  (click the link/name of the song if you don't remember it) It is a complicated song and she is taking it a page at a time.  If you call, she would be happy to play for you what she has mastered!

After the recital.

Emma resting with PeeWee!  Emma has missed school two days this week, so far, due to fever and coughing.  I thought it was allergies until she started to run a temp.  Fingers crossed for her to get better--she is having too much fun at home!!!

Terrific at 12 . . .

Katy with her birthday present, Misty.

Our fabulous 'tween!

What a great day to be 12!  The weather is gorgeous, just like the birthday girl, and she is spending the day in Cascade with the entire 6th grade class as they hang out at the YMCA Horsethief Reservoir ropes course/climbing wall/camp facility.  Eric is there with her as a parent volunteer so I hope he was able to take pictures.  She was very excited to be going!  They left pretty early this morning and will return at 5:00.  After they clean up, Grammy will join us for dinner at Katy's favorite restaurant, Goodwood Barbecue.  I have Key Lime Bars cooling in the fridge for an after dinner treat and then I am fairly certain the birthday girl will collapse into bed . . .

The lyrics to the chorus of the song, "Just the Way You Are," (from one of my new favorite singers, Bruno Mars) really reflect how we feel about Katy . . .

"When I see your face
there's not a thing that I would change
cause you're amazing
just the way you are.

And when you smile,
the whole world stops and stares for awhile
cause girl you're amazing
just the way you are."

We love you, Katydid!  Happy, Happy Birthday . . .

School is out for me!

I am thrilled to report I have completed my second semester of classes!  My grades posted today and I received "straight" A's.  My family seems happy to have my full attention again and I am more than happy to give it . . .
I'll fill you in with the details of a few things I learned this year when I can sit down for more than 15 minutes without falling asleep!  Until then, I am going to bed . . .
