She did it . . .

Katy waiting to run her event at the regional meet. (She's the tall one in the middle)

Just a note to let you know that Katy ran the 800m this afternoon! The 800, you say. Isn't that the one she had so much trouble with a few weeks ago? Yep, that one! After competing in a few meets and getting a feel for the other events, Katy decided to train for the 800. She spent time outside of track practice running laps at the nearby high school to get her endurance up. Her goal was to make the two laps without stopping or walking. As an added incentive, she asked if she could get her ears pierced if she made it. (We had been discussing the possibility of getting her ears pierced for her birthday) With all of that extra effort and visions of earrings guiding each step, she met her goal and even sprinted at the end! Eric filmed it and I just cried.
While she did not qualify for the District meet, Katy will be picking out some earrings in the next few days!

PS. She also asked if we could keep up the training--I think we will be having several mother-daughter runs in our future. Now I have to make a goal to not have a heart attack after the first 100m of trying to keep up with her . . .
